184. What Are Spirit Guides?
Entering the realm of spirituality and psychic reading/channeling was a bit overwhelming. All I kept hearing was a few distinct phrases, and “spirit guides” being one of them. During my crash course education, and simply just googling things, there were a lot of what I felt were “old” concepts and phrases I didn’t really resonate with. However spirit guides always stuck.
I suppose it’s easy to get it to stick, because the concept is quite simple. They are simply “entities” or energies which help guide you in this lifetime. We can realistically say that this is a corresponding concept to us living here on earth. We have people who look after us (such as our parents, grandparents, etc.) as well as other friends and family. It’s no surprise that we retain similar connections on the other side. However the main difference is that these guides don’t have to be our blood ancestors from here in this lifetime. They can really be any type of entities, even animals or non-human ones. Why? Well, because they can be. We have the silo’d perspective that humans are the greatest species of all time. Perhaps we may be the most logically intelligent species here on earth, but there’s no telling how far down the food chain we are in the greater scale of the universe. All entities have something interesting and unique to offer (well, hopefully positive ones, that is).
How we come to be assigned to these spirit guides may be slightly unknown. However it’s likely that in some way shape or form, we have retained an energetic connection with them. Or we just “need” what they provide.
I find that we often have about 3-4 (ish) at any given point in time. However you can certainly have less or more.
Spirit guides tend to differ from our passed loved ones in that they typically have more “wisdom” as they have lived through several lives. It’s sort of like a “step up” in a job. Management, if you would (lol). While our passed loved ones may retain a stronger energetic connection to us in some sense, spirit guides are highly evolved and “trained” how to look after us, particularly with those specific skills I mentioned. Also, they tend to differ from past loved ones because they are more concerned with our higher level growth and evolution. often times passed loved ones come through to talk about the now, our family dynamics and how we can improve ourselves in the moment. They are typically interested in comforting us, as well. Spirit guides may tend to push us to our limits to really “evolve”. With this energetic connection, our evolvement is also their evolvement. Our learnings directly impact them. It’s absolutely in their best interest to serve us. But with that said, they certainly cant’ do everything for us. It’s our job to take their subconscious (or conscious) guidance and advice and run with it.
I find that spirit guides certainly have “mystical powers” beyond just giving us guidance and advice. I do truly feel there’s a whole world up there with bargaining and intervening which is beyond our control. I’ve channeled spirit guides who have been able to “work “on behalf of their assigned human on the other side to provide them options and opportunities. To “set things up” if you will. Whether that’s ob opportunities or ensuring that they “meet” certain people. However, it’s ultimately very complex as it really depends on our free will and desire in order to make these things happen. However, I’m sure all of us have considered a moment of true intuition which had a huge impact on our destiny.
It’s interesting to consider how spirit guides communicate with us. Sometimes it can be incredibly overt. If you are a channeler, you may actually hear or see your spirit guides. If you’re empathic or intuitive, you may feel or “just know” their presence. Often times spirit guides have a “calling card” which may feel different than just their presence. It could be a song that comes on the radio, a particular sensation, maybe you even see a color associated with them or tied to them. It can really be anything that’s distinguished. And this is something that you can co-create with them, as well. However, I find that spirit guide communication is often times much more subtle. Spirit guides can come through as sparks of inspiration, ideas, motivation, intuition, or even direction. It can be a thought, feeling or emotion. You don’t always need a physical sensation or impression to know or understand that your spirit guides are around. With that said, however, I do notice that spirit guides like to “talk” to us through the internet and TV. It can be easy to intercept modes of technology in order to send through a message. I’ve channeled a lot of spirit guides that like to use advertisements or even posters to get a message across. Perhaps one day you unexpectedly end up i a different train car, and receive an impression you wouldn’t otherwise. Who knew!
It’s important to note that spirit guides are really concerned with our “high level” growth and development. This means that they typically aren’t dictating our day to day activities. They do want us to be the manifestors of our own destinies and lean into our free will. It’s really not in their best interest to dictate every move that we make. They just want our general path forward to align to our life purpose. And of course to find success, abundance and remain happy and healthy. While it may be frustrating to some, as they don’t have precise “answers”, it’s very freeing. There are lots of things we can do in this lifetime to achieve our mission and fulfill our purpose. And guides can help us do that.
Many people are confused with how to speak to their guides, but you can talk to them any time you’d like. You can talk to them out loud, or inside your own head. And again, you can ask for them to have “calling cards” so that you can know and understand their presence. The relationships that we develop with our spirit guides can be ongoing. And on top of that, our spirit guides may be subject to change throughout our lives, depending on the energetic influence that they are providing and that we need.
Another sort of interesting tidbit is that people may find struggles with interacting or “knowing” who their spirit guides are. This is totally normal. Often times when I do spirit guide readings, spirit guides want to remain relatively “unknown”. This may be shocking to some, but it’s sometimes their preference. It’s not always the “right” time to be “told” about your spirit guides. Sometimes the journey that you have with knowing and understanding them is up to you. It’s your responsibility to initiate, and not to simply be told. And sometimes knowing too much about your guides can detract from the point. Guides will sometimes withhold their identities or certain information about themselves if they feel it’s unintentionally going to cloudy your vision or water down the point. Or really, anything else which they don’t want. While they don’t want to “hide”, sometimes the relationships just needs to start with an intention and then grow and evolve from there. So don’t get frustrated, it just takes a little bit of patience.
