215. What Your Favorite Entertainment Genre Says About You
Everyone loves good TV and music, and it’s likely that we all have a range of our preferred genres. But does what we like say something about us? I mean, of course. Our interests reflect ourselves and our personality, but also what we tend to be going through at a given moment. So on an overarching concept and theme level, here’s what your favorite TV and movies say about you:
True Crime: This is a hard genre to cover because while it’s so specific, there’s so many differences and nuances between documentaries, shows, etc. The general overarching theme is something which needs to be “investigated”. Since the topics are primarily inter-personal relationships within people, perhaps we can deduce that it’s something to be investigated within your own life, or within your friend or family life. Perhaps there are things which “seem” to be okay or certain, but are truly different or something else. Consider what you’re being drawn to intuitively in regards to your personal issues or aspects of your life. Perhaps there are things in which you need to pay closer attention to.
Romance: This may seem generally obvious in the sense that “romance” would simply be a topic you need to dive more deeper into. But we can also consider that romantic love is an expression or a reflection of the love that we have for ourselves. While it’s true that we may be interested in a temporary fantasy, consider what practices you can integrate into your life regarding self-love. Maybe it’s time to relax, meditate or buy yourself some flowers.
Reality TV: Another challenging topic considering how broad and nuanced reality TV can be. But I think we can deduce it down to real-life personal relationships. The expression of these relationships can provide insight and opportunity into the options that you yourself can implement into your own life. Perhaps you’re looking for new ways to interact with others. New insight into relationship dynamics, or you’re simply interested in the human condition. Perhaps you’re poised for a career in sociology. Many times people “tune out” to reality television to turn their brain off. Consider that reality TV can also be a deflection of our own reality. Are we tired of our day to day? Are we interested in more intrigue and drama? Consider the aspects in a more specific way of what you like about reality TV. Are there practical or sensical ways you can implement these themes into your daily life?
Action/adventure: This is another genre that may seem somewhat obvious, as it may be seen as “escapism” from your day to day life. Perhaps your spirit is looking for more adventure, overall. Since adventure movies are often times really well-formed stories, in comparison to other genres, there could be lack of your own story which you’re looking to develop. Maybe you’re got a start, and idea for an end, but not quite enough for the middle. While action/adventure can of course be escapism, it can also be inspiration as well. Consider he different characters of your favorite action/adventure films. Who do you wish to embody the most? And how can you extract that and integrate it into your own life?
Horror: General interest in horror can be an interest in “sights unseen”. It can represent the fringe of reality, or perhaps even what happens when you push something or someone to its limits. Those interested in horror may have piqued fascination with specific subjects, or potentially even obsessive personalities. There could even be a disinterest in current reality. Those who like horror may actually be emotionally intelligent as they have already “covered” the full spectrum of human emotion and are interested or provoked to see or feel more. As a result, those who like this particular genre may have an interest in fringe subjects, macabre, or things outside of the realm of what’s considered “ordinary”.
Comedy: Comedy is incredibly interesting because the idea/concept of comedy is a fascinating one, which may be somewhat unknown. I think we can all resonate with the idea that comedy is connection, validation and resonation as a whole, but comedy in a sense, produces ideas and theories in an approachable way. It’s of course a great way to raise your vibration if you need it (in other words those attracted to comedy could be at a lower vibrational place), but it also has an interesting function. I’ve talked a lot about how I feel that comedy will “save the world” because it can explain or produce super heavy topics and make them easily digestable or approachable to the mass collective. I find that this is why news-telling comedy segments are super, super successful. There could be an interest in delivering information on a mass scale, or an approachable scale, or in general relatability or resonation with the collective. I think that communication and interpretation of real life events is also relevant and important.
However you want to interpret your viewing habits is entirely up to you. So long as you resonate with the ideas or information, that’s what’s most important. If this is a topic that you’re super interested in, consider what sticks out to you as a part of your favorite movies or TV show. You may see some patterns pop up, or just agin more additional clarity or insight. Remember that what you watch or digest is a reflection of you, so try to make it as informational, educational, vibration-raising as possible :)
