271. Live For Others When You Feel Unmotivated

Probably not the best title for this article and controversial to say the least, but I still lean on it as an “emergency” crutch when you’re going though a hard time. But first, let’s talk about what’s happening.

When you’re depressed, anxious, and in a “hole” so to speak, it can feel not just challenging but practically impossible to do things for you. You don’t feel like yourself, you don’t recognize yourself and you’re totally being over inundated with negative energy. So what does one do? How do you get out of this situation? Even authentically acknowledging, accepting and wanting help may not work. You really might be too afraid to get there. So if you can’t change for yourself, why not try to change for someone else?

This somewhat goes hand in hand with the “override switch” which is a technique I use to reframe the value of a certain situation if you’re struggling to find it or connect. Say for example you’re struggling to clean your place. An “override switch” would be acknowledging that you’re struggling to find the motivation to do it for yourself, but perhaps you can do it for the cat living in your home. You essentially externalize and reprioritize the value and want for the behavior in order to get it done. Why doesn’t this work when you do it? It simply just hasn’t. Any and every situation is is different, but this is specifically for challenges and problems that you’re going through in which you’re at a loss to resolve yourself.

It is true that often time is believe it’s not best to fixate on your problems, for the sole reason that we typically fix on physical problems which are the tip of an iceberg of a larger, spiritual problem. So when we focus so much of our energy on the physical problem, nothing gets resolved. And it’s because it’s a symptom and not a root cause. My guides on transmuting negative energy should help with this process overall.

As human beings in this lifetime, we’re connected to two different things. Ourselves, and everything and anything else around us. Chances are at any given moment, we’re connected to at least one or the other. So if you’re not feeling connected to yourself, leverage your connection to the outside world. Does someone need help, and you can just so happen to help yourself by proxy? How can you “hack” the system or your motivation to work for others. Often times I do things because I feel it will make my ancestors proud. You can make others proud, as well. Do you want to do things to make an easier life for your children? Maybe you know that since we’re all energetically connected, and when you improve yourself, you improve your connections by proxy.

Some may say that this is cheating or a hack. Or perhaps something that doesn’t even work at all. Speaking from personal experience on a very, very long healing journey… do whatever you need to do to kickstart your progress. You’re chasing any type of progress at all. The hard work will come after, and you can never avoid it. but you need something to break the loop that you’re in, in the now.
