314. Hack Motivation

Motivation can be tough. It’s certainly easier if there’s a rhyme, reason or cause for the motivation. If you’re pushed against a wall in a physical sense. Or perhaps in a mental/emotional sense, you’re “fighting” to get out, or make things right. Whatever it may be, there’s likely certain things you do have motivation for. But what about the things you struggle with? We’re certainly not always perfect. Our motivation can ebb and flow. It can change over time. Although I will say that often times we are motivated by the things which are are most in alignment with, getting to that place can be a bit tricky. Often times we’re in fear of breaking our loops, so we sometimes can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, or our true impulses toward what is “right” for us.

I think that we tend to see anything and everything as one blanket statement. For example, we approach a particular task that needs to get done, and we just are immediately defeated. We sort of go to the worst case scenario. We retreat and just decide to sit on the couch instead. A lot of times, it’s all or nothing. But we don’t ever really question why we don’t want to do something. We just sort of give up immediately.

Next time you find yourself not wanting to do something, ask yourself why? Is it because you think it’s too hard? Or is it simply because it’s truly no the right time, or not in alignment with you? By interjecting conscious thought, you may find that you start really connecting with your tasks in a different way. Even if you do defer tasks, there’s likely a good reason for it. Which maybe you hadn’t even thought of before. You may be ultra hard on yourself for deferring tasks, but there may be a very valid energetic reason. After all, I do find that “timing is everything”.

There are so many ways that I motivate myself, which are perhaps out of the realm of normalcy. I find that I am personally most connected to music, so no matter what I’m doing, there’s music that serves a purpose or a vibe. I do find that there are certain things which can drastically change our mental/emotional state. After all, that’s really what blocks us when it comes to completing tasks. Unless of course there is a valid, physical reason why. The truth is, everything is so inter-connected, there can be a multitude of reasons as to why you procrastinate and avoid. I would definitely check out my post which talks about how to transmute negative energy. This can be particularly helpful.

There are a couple of other tips, which I do or will have separate posts about. Let’s talk about them here:

  • The buoy effect: This is particularly helpful when you really cannot figure something out, or break a habit. Often times our problems are symptoms of a root cause. And that is very inter-connected throughout our lives. For example, you may be struggling to brush your teeth every day, but that simple act of brushing your teeth is a manifestation or a larger self-care issue. If you pause fixating on teeth brushing, you can actually “lift up” your vibration as a whole by focusing and “fixing” so to speak, easier areas of your life. Your vibration is all-encompassing, meaning that if you can lift up other, smaller things, you can indirectly lift up what you’re struggling with in particular.

  • Altering your reality: A tip I have to hack motivation is to alter your reality. One of my best tips its to take on the persona of someone else. Are you a CEO? Are you an athlete? What would one of these people be doing? There are so many other ways you can alter your reality, but I find this to be one of the most obvious/the easiest. You can pretend anything is… well… anything. But you’ll want to be specific, and position it so that it is helping you.

  • Find specific hacks: My specific hack is music, but what’s yours? Keep in mind that each task might be different. Are there ways to alter your perception value? Maybe it’s a type of food, a cup of coffee, etc. Maybe you need to go on a walk before you do a particular project. Try using your intuition to feel out what you may need before you begin something.

  • Interjecting consciousness: Like I mentioned before, by simply adding some consciousness to whatever you’re struggling to do, might actually “break the loop” so to speak. Ask yourself questions and see where it leads you. Perhaps it ultimately gets it done, or it prioritizes to a better point or place in time.

  • The override switch: This is a technique I use to re-prioritize. Consider what you need to get done. If you’re not feeling so great about yourself, open it up to see the bigger picture. Maybe you don’t want to clean your place because you’re not feeling it. But you have a cat! And you know that your cat’s comfort is more important than your negative feeling right now. This is just one example, but it can span multiple areas/aspects of life.

Although much of this is phrased in terms of daily, perhaps even innocuous tasks, they can also be for larger goals and accomplishments as well. Consider that this will be tailored to the individual, so test some out and see what works for you!
