168. Love & Light Only?

Thankfully, it’s been a while since I’ve seen this phrase. however, “good vibes” seems to still be quite pervasive. Admittedly, I think I have a jacket with the phrase “good vibes”. While good vibes isn’t inherently negative, I tend to stray away from anything which says “only”. While I find that the phrase itself is likely pretty harmless, there’s a fundamental problem with the concept of only having good vibes.

It’s ideal, of course. I mean after all, who wants to go to a party and have someone show up ringing all the bad vibes. But is it true that living a life worth living on this planet, you just won’t simply come in contact with any bad vibes? Perhaps I’m missing the point and it’s more curation, but why are we singling out good vibes only? Do we not have anything to learn from bad vibes? And what even are bad vibes? Is it something which is inherently “bad”, or is it simply just something which is making us uncomfortable. Is good vibes or light and love only simply elitist and rejecting any and all negative energy coming ones way? Is it potentially narcissistic and deflecting of real, true and authentic feelings? Maybe, or maybe not.

My issue with this phrase is that it simply negates any and all “bad vibes” or bad feelings that people are going through. It simply tells them… get over it, in a sense. And as we know, particularly when you’re in a deep dark place, it’s not just about “getting over it”. In fact, so much needs to happen before, while and during your intention setting of feeling better overall. It can be not only quite dismissive, but oversimplified, as well.

The bigger issue in my opinion is rejection of energy. Although we aren’t always rejecting negative energy, and as a matter of fact, we’re simply often times processing it through our bodies, if we find ourselves in a situation where we need to repress or reject negative energy, for nay number of reasons… perhaps it’s needed or required in order to move on or through a certain situation… that negative energy sits within our energetic body and we continue to be bombarded with the message of “love and light only”. Well… when are we supposed to face and transmute the negative energy we’re accumulating if we’re only in a space of faux good vibes? is it really real at that point, or just an imaginative process?

It’s true that intention setting and putting on a brave face can often times be part of the solution for feeling down and low, but there’s a fine line between dismissal and support. For me, it’s just bizarre language, because it’s sort of trite. Who even knows what it means at this point? What are good vibes after all? Perhaps we should be more specific with our phrases, such as, “healing/transmuting negative energy only”, or “acknowledging and accepting negative energy only”. But I guess it doesn’t have the same ring to it.
